Altura Garden

Beaches, ON

The front garden of this home features several tiered beds that required a refresh in terms of plant material. Perennials that could be reused in the new design were removed and set aside. Preparing the garden beds involved removing a designated dry creek bed in the main garden area, clearing weeds, and enriching the soil. Plant selection would need to accommodate a range of sun exposures, from full sun to part shade.

The perennials that had been set aside were combined with new plantings to include hostas, lilies, mophead hydrangea, astilbe, burning bush, turtlehead, columbine, coral bells, creeping Jenny, climbing hydrangea, creeping thyme, Japanese forest grass, Japanese pieris, Karl Foerster grass, Japanese painted fern, lamium, oakleaf hydrangea, prairie smoke, and Russian sage. To ensure year-round visual interest, spring bulbs were planted at a later date.

The result is a beautifully refreshed garden that offers layers of texture, colour, and seasonal charm, enhancing both the landscape and the home's curb appeal.
